Job Summary:
Serves as a Patient Safety Manager and Infection Prevention Program Nurse. Responsible for implementing patient safety and infection prevention policies and activities developed by the Military Health System Patient Safety Program and DHA. Exercises broad oversight and coordinates efforts with senior leadership, clinical leaders, and frontline staff.
- Responsible for the planning, development and implementation of a clinically based patient safety program designed to provide high quality. Identifies problems with care which put patients at risk and recommends alternatives to improve them. Identifies and reports patient safety issues to activity leadership.
- Provides timely feedback to staff members who submit patient safety reports and plans. Ensures all patient safety action plans are implemented, evaluated for effectiveness, and communicated to appropriate entities.
- Keeps current on public policies, Army regulations and guidance, legislative and care trends that have the potential to impact the safety of patient care activities.
- Implements initiatives and/or changes to meet patient needs in a quality conscious, resource efficient manner. Participate as a member of interdisciplinary teams/committees in support of patient safety related goals.
- Assists in recognition of other team members to improve patient care. Maintains patient safety program requirements/validation criteria.
- Reviews materials with regards to compliance with standards. Coordinates patient safety incidents requiring standard of care determinations or potentially compensable events (PCEs) to Risk Manager.
- Establishes administrative controls aimed at ensuring approved recommendations from completed aggregate analysis and Root Cause Analyses (RCAs). Analyzes patient safety findings and follows up on actions through referral to appropriate staff members/teams for corrective action.
- Monitors and analyzes changes in mission/goals to assess the impact these changes might have on work methods/procedures. Recommends patient safety initiatives to be considered during strategic planning.
- Plans, develops, implements, evaluates and continually monitors a comprehensive infection prevention and control program. Ensures the Infection Prevention and Control Program complies with the guidelines and recommendations of the CDC, EPA, FDA, OSHA, or other relevant agencies.
- Ensures treatment facilities comply with inspection and certification requirements. Develops and provides initial and recurrent training in infection prevention and control for staff. Responds to infection control issues and provides necessary follow up to determine root cause and recommendations for corrective actions.
- Prepares written and oral reports as needed on infection prevention and control policy and practices. Responsible for providing program direction, expert advice, and consultative assistance in infection prevention and control.
- Advise Leaders, and staff on methods of improving the quality and effectiveness of infection prevention and control performance in patient care.
- Responsible for the development and updates of Infection Prevention and Control and Exposure Control Plans. Serves as the SME and considered a technical authority for all aspects of Infection Prevention.
Required Qualifications:
- BSc/Associate degree or higher in Nursing, HCA; Master’s preferred. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution
- 5+ years of experience in healthcare organizations to include infection control
- Knowledge of military healthcare business rules, operations, and needs
- Ability to analyze workflow, healthcare data, and business processes in organizations
- Ability to evaluate programs for risk, price, operations, and related impacts
- Current (3+ years) knowledge of healthcare high reliability organization principles and transformation
- Expert written and verbal communicator
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree
- Familiarity with MHS Healthcare Information Systems and Technology
- Current (1–3 years) knowledge and experience of current MHS Governance construct and procedures
Licenses and Certifications:
- BLS, CPR, CIC, APIC, RN, ACLS, HIV, CNS
Location:
- Washington DC area (Remote / Hybrid schedule) Must be able to attend meetings at client site when needed
