Our federal contractor, VES, is seeking highly qualified individuals to provide Software Engineering expertise to inform the development and promulgation of DoD-wide state-of-the-art systems engineering practice and to support modernization priorities for the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)) Engineering Policy & Systems Directorate. The successful candidates will excel in managing and accomplishing major project technical tasks; providing technically sound advice to inform the development of DoD technical assessments and software modernization efforts; and establishing strong working relationships with DoD stakeholders. The individuals will provide actionable recommendations to mitigate software-related risks and issues in order to improve program execution, including in support of Independent Technical Risk Assessments (ITRA) for major defense acquisition programs. Additionally, the individuals will provide subject matter expertise in the areas of software production metrics and benchmarking; management and curation of metric data from historical and current programs into a searchable database; and data science and analysis techniques. and establish and facilitate related Communities of Practice (CoPs), Working Groups (WGs), and Bodies of Knowledge (BoKs) to serve the DoD, the Services, Defense Agencies, academia, and industry.

Qualifications: The Senior Software Engineer will be capable of leading, organizing, prioritizing and executing software engineering activities for the DoD. Should have recent and relevant software development expertise, including Agile methodologies and DevSecOps. Should be familiar with common software production metrics and analysis tools including but not limited to: Software Evaluation and Estimation of Resources – Software Estimating Model (SEER-SEM), Software Lifecycle Model (SLIM) or similar tools. Familiarity with DoD acquisition policy, guidance, and standards is desired.
Experience: Senior Engineer requires 10+ years of experience related to Software Engineering. (Mid/Junior-level positions require 5+ years and 2+ years, respectively.)
Education: Requires B.S. degree in a field supporting Software Engineering from an accredited college or university. M.S. desired (Mid/Junior-level positions require only a High School diploma, B.S. desired.)
Security Clearance: Requires SECRET clearance.
